The lush Loire Valley is supremely regal. The 16th-century reign of François 1er witnessed the apogee of the French Renaissance, characterized by an intense period of château building and an interest in humanism and the arts. Like the itinerant court, you will travel among the treasure palaces of Amboise, Chambord, Chenonceaux, Cheverny and Azay le Rideau. At Amboise, you may wish to visit the Leonardo da Vinci manor house of Clos-lucé, whose cellars exhibit models of Leonardo's inventions constructed from his mechanical sketches. You may also enjoy a nice wine tasting at Vouvray, famous for its white wines.
