VERSAILLES - GIVERNY
In the morning you will see the world-famous Versailles palace built for King Louis XIV by architects Louis Le Vau and Jules Hardouin Mansart. Visit the sumptuous main apartments on the first floor where the climax is the Hall of Mirrors, where 17 great mirrors face tall arched windows. See, too, the Royal Chapel and have a walk through the splendid gardens designed by André Le Notre. You can also visit the Musée des Carosses housing a collection of royal carriages. In the Versailles gardens, the Grand and and Petit Trianons (small palaces), as well as the charming Marie Antoinette farm, await your visit.
In the afternoon, we will take you to Giverny. In 1883, the Impressionist painter Claude Monet rented a house in the small village of Giverny, and worked here until his death. The house, known as the Fondation Claude Monet, is decorated in the colour schemes that Monet admired. The gardens are famous as the subject of some of the artist's studies. Nearby, you may visit the American Art Museum.
